READING SERIES

ANIMAL FARM READING SERIES convenes once monthly at LEGION, an outstanding establishment at 790 Metropolitan Avenue, corner of Graham Avenue, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

We start at 8 and the event is free.

TUESDAY, DEC. 4 is JULIA FIERRO, JOSH FRUHLINGER, REBECCA SCHIFF, and JULIA WERTZ.

Julia Fierro founded The Sackett Street Writers' Workshop in 2002, a Brooklyn-based creative home for over 1700 short-story writers, novelists, memoirists and essayists.
She recently completed a novel, The End of the World as We Know It, about the complicated and often comical experience of contemporary Brooklyn parenting, was a contributor to Naming the World: And Other Exercises for the Creative Writer.  Julia is a graduate of The Iowa Writers' Workshop, where she was awarded a Teaching-Writing Fellowship for her short story “The Girl Who Walked on Water.” She has taught Literature and Creative Writing in the Honors Program at Hofstra University, at the University of Iowa, and she currently teaches the Post-MFA Writing Workshops at Sackett Street. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two small children.

In 2004, Josh Fruhlinger created a blog about newspaper comics strips called theComics Curmudgeon, mostly as a venue for him to make jokes about Mary Worth. To his surprise, it became somewhat Internet famous, and to his even greater surprise he's still writing it eight years later.  Since then, his writing has appeared onWonkette and The Awl and he has co-authored [Citation Needed]: The Best of Wikipedia's Worst Writing, which was spun off of the Tumblr of the same name.  He'll be reading from his new, Kickstarter-funded novel, The Enthusiast.

Rebecca Schiff's writing has appeared in FenceGuernican+1, and in the anthologyLost and Found: Stories From New York. She received an MFA from Columbia University and is working on a collection of short stories, tentatively titled "The Variety Pack".

Julia Wertz was born in the San Francisco bay area in 1982. She is the author/illustrator of the unfortunately titled autobiographical graphic novels The Fart Party vol 1 and vol 2, Drinking at the Movies and The Infinite Wait and Other Stories.  She currently lives in Brooklyn, NY and makes comics at Pizza Island (RIP). Her work appears in absolutely no other publications and she’s an irregular contributor to twitter
